The merchants create totally awesome scarecrows that represent their business and compete for fun. Judging is done by local celebrities. It's a fun way to start the fall season. This is just one of many special events in this historic town that include, The Saint Patrick's Day Parade, Territory Days, The Easter Egg Hunt, and the notorious Christmas Fruit Cake Toss. Old Colorado City hosts Concerts throughout the summer, Scarecrow Days in September, and a farmers market convenes every Saturday from late spring through October on 24th street between Colorado and Pikes Peak Avenues. Old Colorado City, founded in 1859, is located on the west side of Colorado Springs and has a rich and
colorful history. It was the first capital of the Territory of Colorado and the center of early settlement in the Pikes Peak region. Designated a National Historic District in 1982, restoration efforts have resulted in a physical and cultural recovery of the area. Fine old brick structures, quaint alleyways, and territorial charm provide the setting
for small thriving shops, galleries, and restaurants. A large portion of the homes in the area are restored turn of the century gems hidden behind tree lined steets off of the hustle and bustle of Colorado Boulevard. Some are now open to visitors as bed and breakfasts.
