WELCOME TO THE BLACK FOREST

A trip through the Black Forest between September 12th and October 31st will provide a different view each day. The fiery red outcropping of bushes, golden aspen, and cottonwood stand out from the almost black pines of the lush Black Forest. No matter what the season, this is a very unique area of Colorado Springs.

Folks here love their 4-H or just the serenity of the mountain atmosphere in the vanilla scented pines. Located on a tongue of decomposed granite that stretches from Monument Pass to the South and East, the Black Forest is an area in our high mountain plains that is able to sustain beautiful ponderosa pines. The masterplan for the

area primarily requires 2 1/2 acres or more to preserve the integrity of the landscape. On the edge of the Black Forest, hardy model plane hobbiests try their luck against the snow capped backdrop of Pikes Peak. The weather in the Black Forest can be a little colder and the area retains more snow because of the trees.

This does not, however, deter those with the pioneering spirit of whom there are many in this rural commmunity. Case in point is the BLACK ROSE ACCOUSTIC SOCIETY. The citizens of Black Forest are energetic, ethusiatic, artistic, and creative individuals, and the community craft and arts fairs should not be missed.

Kettle Creek and parts of Sand Creek meader through the Black Forest carving deep ravines where wildlife abounds. The two legged variety either on two wheels or on their own two feet can be seen most every day checking out their favorite trails.
